What Paperly is
Paperly is a community news paper with the look of a classic broadsheet. Every story on the front page comes from one of two desks: the AI Newsroom, which writes short briefs from public sources on a schedule, and the community desk, where signed-in contributors file stories under their own username.
Every story links to its original source. Nothing is published from memory or guesswork: if the source page cannot be read and checked, the story is not published.
Sections
Stories are filed in one of five sections:
- Technology & AI — Semiconductors, software platforms, and AI infrastructure.
- Automotive & EV — Vehicle manufacturing, electric vehicles, and autonomous driving.
- Crypto & Blockchain — Digital assets, protocols, and network upgrades.
- Markets & Economy — Markets, inflation, rates, and earnings. Not investment advice.
- Energy & Industry — Energy, commodities, manufacturing, and industrial technology.
AI Newsroom
The AI Newsroom runs four times a day, at 00:00, 06:00, 12:00, and 18:00 UTC (07:00, 13:00, 19:00, and 01:00 in Jakarta). Each run looks for recent news from official agencies, established outlets, and news search, then tries to publish one sourced brief.
- It opens the original source page and reads the text.
- It writes an original headline and summary from that text only.
- Every quote must appear in the source page, and the summary must match what the source says.
- Sources from trusted outlets and official agencies can publish directly. Other sources need an independent report of the same event before they publish; otherwise they wait for an editor.
- If no source passes these checks, nothing is published that run. The newsroom never invents a story to fill a slot.
AI Newsroom briefs are labeled AI Newsroom and always record a $0.00 community reward.
Community stories
Any signed-in contributor can file a story from the Submit a story page. A filing needs:
- a headline,
- one of the five sections,
- a factual story in your own words, up to 1,500 words, and
- the URL of the original source.
To keep the desk free of spam, each contributor can file one story every 2 hours.
After filing, the desk checks the story automatically:
- Source check — the source page must be reachable and readable.
- Duplicate check — the same event filed again is rejected or held. A genuine new development can still publish.
- Fact check — the story's claims must be supported by the source.
- Scoring — the story receives an editorial score from 0 to 100.
A story that passes every check is published. A story with an open question goes to an editor for review. A rejected story shows the reason on your desk, and you can appeal once.
Editorial score
The editorial score is a whole number from 0 to 100. It is the exact sum of five criteria, and each criterion is checked on the server so it can never exceed its maximum:
| Criterion | Maximum |
|---|---|
| Source credibility | 30 |
| Evidence | 25 |
| Novelty | 20 |
| Relevance and impact | 15 |
| Clarity | 10 |
| Total | 100 |
The score measures story quality. It is not money and it is not a balance. Stories scoring 85 or more are marked Bulletin, and 70 or more Notable.
USD rewards
Each eligible community story records one reward in US dollars, chosen from its final editorial score with this exact table. The maximum is $0.30 per story.
| Editorial score | Reward per eligible story |
|---|---|
| 0–9 | $0.00 |
| 10–19 | $0.01 |
| 20–29 | $0.03 |
| 30–39 | $0.05 |
| 40–49 | $0.08 |
| 50–59 | $0.10 |
| 60–69 | $0.15 |
| 70–79 | $0.20 |
| 80–89 | $0.25 |
| 90–99 | $0.28 |
| 100 | $0.30 |
- Only published community stories that pass every check are eligible.
- AI Newsroom stories always record $0.00, whatever their score.
- The reward is recorded once, when the story becomes eligible. Editing, reloading, re-approving, or processing a story again never records a second reward.
- Amounts are stored as whole cents, so balances never drift from rounding.
- Rewards are limited by a daily and monthly reward budget for the paper, and by $2.00 per contributor per day. An eligible story that arrives after a budget is used up still publishes, with no reward recorded.
The amount shown on each story and on your desk is always the amount actually recorded in the ledger.
Wallet sign-in and username
Contributors sign in with an EVM wallet. Connecting a wallet only chooses an address; you are signed in after you sign a short message that proves you control it. The signature does not send a transaction, approve a token, or move funds. Paperly never asks for a private key or seed phrase.
The first time a wallet signs in, you choose a username of 4 to 12 letters. One wallet keeps one username, and it cannot be changed later. That username is your byline and your name on the leaderboard.
Leaderboard
The leaderboard ranks contributors by the total editorial score of their published community stories from the last 30 days. AI Newsroom briefs are not counted. A pile of weak filings does not outrank a smaller set of strong ones.
Withdrawals and stock delivery
Your desk shows three USD figures:
- Available Rewards — what you can request now.
- Pending Rewards — the amount reserved by your open withdrawal requests.
- Total Earned — every story reward recorded for you.
A withdrawal works in these steps:
- You request an amount in US dollars from Withdrawals. The minimum is $2.00, and each contributor can request up to $10.00 per day (reset at 00:00 UTC). The amount is reserved at once, so the same funds cannot be requested twice.
- The publisher reviews the request. A rejected request releases the reserved amount back to your available balance. You can also cancel a request while it awaits review.
- For an approved request, the publisher selects a supported stock and delivers it to you manually through a brokerage.
- The publisher records the delivery: stock, quantity, reference price and time, delivered value, any remainder, delivery evidence, and the transfer reference.
- The request is marked Paid only after the publisher has verified the delivery. Any small remainder from rounding the share quantity is returned to your available balance.
- If a delivery fails, the request is marked failed and the reserved amount is released back to you.
Supported stocks:
- AAPL · Apple Inc.
- MSFT · Microsoft Corporation
- NVDA · NVIDIA Corporation
- AMZN · Amazon.com, Inc.
- GOOGL · Alphabet Inc. Class A
- TSLA · Tesla, Inc.
- SPY · SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust
- VOO · Vanguard S&P 500 ETF
Your reward balance is a recorded USD value. It does not mean you already own stock; stock is yours only once a delivery is completed and verified.
Legacy points
Before USD rewards, Paperly recorded rewards as points. Those historical points remain on the record as history. They are not converted to USD and cannot be withdrawn.
What Paperly never does
- Publish a story whose source could not be read and checked.
- Invent articles, quotes, numbers, dates, or images.
- Pay community rewards for AI Newsroom stories.
- Ask for a private key or seed phrase.
- Buy, sell, or transfer stock automatically.
- Mark a withdrawal paid before the delivery is verified.
Editorial scores measure story quality. They are not investment advice and do not predict market performance.
Questions
- Why was my story held for review?
- Something needed a human look: a similar story already exists, the source could not be confirmed, or a claim was not clearly supported. The reason is shown on your desk.
- Why did my published story record no reward?
- Either it did not pass every eligibility check, or the reward budget for that day was already used up. The story itself stays published.
- Can I change my username?
- No. One wallet keeps the username chosen at first sign-in.
- When will my withdrawal arrive?
- Withdrawals are reviewed and delivered by hand. Your request shows its current status on the Withdrawals page at every step.
- Does an AI Newsroom story ever earn money?
- No. AI Newsroom stories always record $0.00.
